Many of the myths surrounding the use of massage for people with cancer come from misunderstandings about the nature of the illness and the medical treatments commonly given.
We have all been taught that massage is a contra-Indication for cancer patients, our insurers usually won’t insure us and we don’t feel we have the confidence to be able to treat.
However as a trained skilled oncology massage therapist you will be able to provide a safe & modified massage using a lighter touch so you never need to turn these clients away!
As an Oncology massage therapist you will gain a deeper understanding of cancer, the side effects of cancer treatments, such as medications, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation; and have the ability to modify massage techniques in order to adapt for these side effects, as well as for the disease.
You will be able to treat people in active treatment, those in recovery or survivorship, as well as those at the end of life.
